CMS delivers integrated geotechnical solution to Bagmoor Wind Farm
CMS Combigrid has been used at Bagmoor Wind Farm in Normanby, near Scunthorpe, to reinforce site access roads during the installation of eight new turbines. CMS designed the integrated geogrid and geotextile system to deliver high performance and cost-effective ground reinforcement for contractors, McNicholas Construction.
Evaluating specific project criteria, CMS specified 30,400m2 of Combigrid 30/30 to ensure the ground would withstand maximum-weighted vehicles. As with all systems designed by CMS Specialist Geotechnical Solutions, this design was eligible for free PI cover.
Dean Thomas, civil engineering estimator, McNicholas Construction, comments: “CMS consistently deliver the most economic geotechnical solutions. The added value of the free technical design CMS bring to their service and their high responsiveness to changing on-site demands, ensure that our specific project requirements are always met. We are extremely pleased with the product and service CMS has provided, and would look to continue using them in the future.”
By combining two layers into one, Combigrid reduces delivery and storage costs. Moreover, as it requires only a single installation procedure, Combigrid is a cost-effective and time-efficient alternative to separate geogrid and geotextile products.
Part of the CMS geogrid range, Combigrid effectively combines 30/30 geogrid with Secutex, non-woven geotextiles. The two components are heat-bonded together between the lateral and longitudinal grid elements to form a fully integrated product. While the geogrid strengthens the surface, the geotextile layer acts a separator to prevent expensive stone and gravel loss.
Richard Longbottom, technical sales director, CMS Specialist Geotechnical Solutions, concludes: “Combigrid combines the properties of the geogrid and geotextiles into one product to offer a complete and cost-effective solution. The product is suitable for use across the various ground conditions encountered on site and its dual function provides maximum reinforcement whilst significantly reducing the amount of aggregate required.”
Combigrid can be supplied in polypropylene and polyester, subject to specific project requirements. It is extremely robust and delivers high chemical and weather resistance.
